Full-page UCC ad appears in the New York Times

April 2, 2008

The UCC is employing the use of a full-page ad in the April 2 edition of The New York Times to help tell the broader story of the denomination.

Found on page 11 in the main section, the broadsheet statement acknowledges the hurt that many in our country have experienced in recent weeks, including members of Trinity UCC in Chicago. It also speaks to the uniqueness of the UCC's polity, whereby decision-making rests within each congregation. The ad also affirms the UCC's commitment to members' individual conscience and speaks to ways that the UCC, throughout its history, has been a "risk-taking church."

Our national staff members are getting very positive responses by email, website traffic and some media inquiries. A new video message "UCC 101" greets persons visiting the UCC homepage.

Click the links below for bulletin-size and letter-size versions of the NYT ad that our congregations may want to use this coming Sunday.

Churches are encouraged to consider running the ad in your own local or regional papers. In order to do this, you will need a high-resolution version of the ad. Persons interested in a high-res file should contact Sherrell Johnson at sjohnson@ucc.org.

All newspapers' page sizes vary somewhat, so you will likely need to ask your newspaper's ad department to reformat the ad slightly.
