Bright Beginnings

Explore nature! Hike! Toast marshmallows at the campfire! Pet a snake (or just watch it wiggle)! Learn to be part of God’s loving family. Making crafts, playing games, singing, swimming, and taking part in vespers (evening worship) add up to a great first overnight camping experience.

Betsy King (20th yr. Dir.) is a member of First Congregational UCC, Wellington.  She has an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education.  She is a preschool teacher for Head Start.  Betsy has been on staff and involved with Outdoor Ministries for more than twenty years.


Champion Camp

At Champion Camp, group challenges abound, and everyone wins with God’s love. We will enjoy fishing, swimming, hiking, cook outs, camp fires, and making and renewing friendships while sleeping in cabins in the woods. Experience worship through vespers and prayer in God’s great outdoors.

Carrie Secrest (20+ yrs. exp.) is a member of Brownhelm UCC. She is a 9th through 12th grade special education teacher and enjoys playing soccer. Carrie is married and the mother of Cayton.

Scott Musser is a member of Christ UCC in Orrville.  He is a high school science teacher that has been actively involved in the camps for over 10 years.  Scott is excited to be back for another fun filled week at Genesis and Champion Camp!


 

Circle of Friends Jr.

Circle of Friends Camp means F-U-N!  Join us for a week packed with friendship, fellowship, and fun!  Our days are filled with hiking, swimming, worshipping, crafts, and campfires.  We'll enjoy a canoe trip on the Mohican River and wrap up the week with closing worship to share all we learned with our parents and friends.  Come for new friends, fun, and to have the best week of your summer!

Director

Laura Ambrose (3rd yr. Dir.) is not new to the Outdoor Ministries scene. She has been a camp cabin leader for 5 years and was a camper for 6 years. Laura is a graduate of Mount Union College majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business. She was a member of the Residence Life Staff, Co-Captain of the Raider Marching Band Flag Line, participated in the Psychology Honor Society Psi Chi, served a term on Student Senate and was the Luminary chair of the Relay For Life Planning Committee. Laura has many wonderful memories and good friendships from her years of being around camp and assisting with youth. She is ready to provide the same for her campers.

Robin Stanley (5th yr. Dir.) had a great time directing Circle of Friends Camp last year.  She has been a cabin leader at many different camps over the years and served on site staff for three years.  She is an attorney in Chardon, Ohio and is looking forward to sharing her love of camp and Jesus with the campers this summer.  She can be reached by email at robin5555@hotmail.com.

 


 

Creator's Classroom

Jennifer Claudy is quite at home at camp, after 8 years as a camper, numerous weeks volunteering as a cabin leader, and one fabulous summer on staff as the program coordinator. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Butler University, Indianapolis, sings in the choir at St. John's UCC Newport, Kentucky and works in the Development Office at Beech Acres Parenting Center in Cincinnati.


 

Daring and Dangerous Camp

Based on the bestselling books The Daring Book for Girls and The Dangerous Book for Boys. Learn cool new skills and put them into practice during this week-long odyssey of fun. Head into the woods to build a fort, make a friend, sing, swim, hike and praise God as part of the fun.

 Diary of a Wimpy Kid    New this year!

Discover the adventures and misadventures that await camp kids. Will you catch a lightning bug, drop your retainer in the toilet, or forget the words to your favorite camp song?  By heading out into the wilds of Pilgrim Hills, we will explore, journal, play, pray, swim and cook out.  We may even sleep under the stars.  By the end of the week, we will produce a Diary of the Pilgrim hills experience.

David Zerby (1st yr. Dir.) is the pastor of New Vision UCC in Canton.  He loved attending camp as a child and youth and has previously served as Camp Naturalist for the UCC/DOC Otter Partnership Camp.  Prior to serving in local congregations David directed a faith based mountaineering program in New Hampshire.  He and wife, Diane, have two children who also love camp a whole lot.  Amanda will once again be going to Outpost and Michael will be joining his dad for our Wimpy Kid week.


 

Fur, Feathers, Friends

Want to meet new friends this summer?  Hoping some of them have fur, feathers or scales? Explore God's creation and meet new people and critter friends.  We will hike, explore, visit the nature center and play together—so c'mon down!

Junior Choir Camp

Have you ever felt like you could star in “Glee”? If so, this awesome camp is for you. Our week is filled with music, art and drama, exploring nature, swimming, hiking, making new friends and, of course, having fun. You’ll get a chance to share your singing talents during the week – with a concert at the end of the week for your family. Our talented cabin leaders and directors have lots of camping experience (many are former campers!). You need to experience this camp; it will be one of the most amazing weeks of your life.

Aaron Miner (14 yr. Dir.) holds a degree in music education from Bowling Green State University.  He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from New York University and currently lives and works in New York City.  Previously, Aaron served for six years on the Outdoor Ministries summer staff.

Lori Betz (13th yr. Dir.) has a degree in Early Childhood Education and is currently a teacher for children who are in traveling Broadway shows.  In the summers she resides in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She has been involved with the camps for many years, including five years as a summer staff cabin leader.


 

Junior MMADD Camp

Music, Mime, Art, Drama, Dance and making new friends — all in one week. We will be playing in the paint and “clowning around,” plus hiking, swimming, and cooking out. We will have fun learning about God and discovering God’s creation. Do you enjoy being creative and sharing your talents? Then join us in going MMADD!

Sarah Zecchini is a 2005 graduate of Sinclair and a 2008 graduate of Miami University with two Associates degrees and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  She has been involved with various choirs, bands, and drama clubs throughout her scholastic career.  She attended CNS and Senior MMADD Camps as a youth and she spent two wonderful summers as the arts and crafts instructor at Templed Hills.  She has been volunteering with Junior MMADD for eight years, co-directing the camp for the last six years.

Sarah Ambrose (8th yr. Dir.) is a Heidelberg College graduate with a degree in Music. She is a member of the Richville UCC voice and handbell choirs. Sarah was a UCC camper for more than 7 years and worked on the Outdoor Ministries summer staff in 2002.


Junior Outpost Camp

An amazing week of outdoor living.  Sleep in tents, cook your own food, explore, play, swim and worship. Join us for a super fun week camping out at the Hills.

Director

Chris Dahlstrom has a great amount of experience at several different facilities including 6 years at Camp Falling Rock as aquatics director, high adventure director and Scoutcraft director; 4 years at Recreation Unlimited as Aquatics Director and counselor; and 2 half-years at Easter Seals as an Aquatics Coordinator. He has worked for Nature's Classroom for 6 seasons and is now the Templed Hills Site Director for the Nature’s Classroom program.   He graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in American History. Chris is an avid kayaker, cyclist, and backpacker and he hiked nine hundred miles in the summer of 2008 on the Pacific Crest Trail.


Love the Pool Camp

A fun-filled camp for anyone who likes the pool. There will be classes to teach you to swim or to swim better. You’ll swim 2-4 times each day, so there will be plenty of free time in the pool. Be ready to love God, people, games, crafts, nature times, and living with other kids in a cabin.

Co-Directors

Richard Beck (9+ yr. Dir.) is pastor of Grace UCC, Uniontown, Ohio.  He and his wife Marlene are proud parents of three grown children.  He enjoys singing camps songs, and even lullabies when helpful.  A former competitive swimmer, lifeguard, and Water Safety Instructor, Dick still swims a half mile to over a mile 2 to 4 times most weeks.  But to him, loving God is far more important than swimming.  He’s excited that unless new jobs come up, most of the support staff and cabin leaders from last year will be back this summer.  The staff likes each other but have hearts for our campers.

Elli Kalas attended camp for the first time in 7th grade and has been back almost every year since (over 20 years).  Elli is married, mother of two and working full time as a teacher of the visually impaired.
