Director

Chris Dahlstrom has a great amount of experience at several different facilities including 6 years at Camp Falling Rock as aquatics director, high adventure director and Scoutcraft director; 4 years at Recreation Unlimited as Aquatics Director and counselor; and 2 half-years at Easter Seals as an Aquatics Coordinator. He has worked for Nature's Classroom for 6 seasons and is now the Templed Hills Site Director for the Nature’s Classroom program.   He graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in American History. Chris is an avid kayaker, cyclist, and backpacker and he hiked nine hundred miles in the summer of 2008 on the Pacific Crest Trail.

 


 

Camp vs. Wild

 

Can you survive in the wild? Can you survive camp?  Come find out how to do both!  You will be learning what you can eat, how to build shelter, how to build fires, how to survive!  This camp will teach you survival skills, help you strengthen your faith.

Michael Milroy is the Pilgrim Hills Nature’s Classroom Site Director and has directed many summer camps over the last several years. An avid mountain biker and kayaker, Michael’s background in education and his love for working with children are evident as he mixes learning, hands-on experience and play to create a fun and memorable camping experience.


 

Circle of Friends Camp

Circle of Friends Camp means F-U-N!  Join us for a week packed with friendship, fellowship, and fun!  Our days are filled with hiking, swimming, worshipping, crafts, and campfires.  We'll enjoy a canoe trip on the Mohican River and wrap up the week with closing worship to share all we learned with our parents and friends.  Come for new friends, fun, and to have the best week of your summer!

Laura Ambrose (3rd yr. Dir.) is not new to the Outdoor Ministries scene. She has been a camp cabin leader for 5 years and was a camper for 6 years. Laura is a graduate of Mount Union College majoring in Psychology with a minor in Business. She was a member of the Residence Life Staff, Co-Captain of the Raider Marching Band Flag Line, participated in the Psychology Honor Society Psi Chi, served a term on Student Senate and was the Luminary chair of the Relay For Life Planning Committee. Laura has many wonderful memories and good friendships from her years of being around camp and assisting with youth. She is ready to provide the same for her campers.

Robin Stanley (5th yr. Dir.) had a great time directing Circle of Friends Camp last year.  She has been a cabin leader at many different camps over the years and served on site staff for three years.  She is an attorney in Chardon, Ohio and is looking forward to sharing her love of camp and Jesus with the campers this summer.  She can be reached by email at robin5555@hotmail.com.

 


Confirmation Camp: Exploring Our Faith

Explore your faith through learning about the Bible, church history, Christian living and worship.  Make friends with young people from other churches across Ohio. The camp is designed to augment the local congregation’s Confirmation Program. Our staff of clergy and lay volunteers seeks to use the outdoor environment creatively to involve campers in experiential learning.  Our camp is open to all confirmands in the Ohio Conference.

Katie Jackson is the Director of Youth Ministries at St. Paul UCC New Bremen and has been a part of the Confirmation Camp staff for many years.  She believes passionately in the vitality of the ministry of camp and loves sharing her faith with new Confirmation campers each year.

Duane “Tiny” Bradner has been a Confirmation Camp cabin leader for over 30 years.  His enthusiasm and love for camp are very evident as is his love for the campers and the experiences of faith formation.


 

God COOKS in mysterious ways...

 

God Cooks will teach you new, mysterious ways to cook foods that you love at camp! We will also play games, swim and do all of the fun things you love at camp. God Cooks will let you grow with God and make new friends who share your interest in cooking.

Marcie Cassaro (3rd yr. Dir.) is a member of St. John's UCC in Bucyrus, Ohio. Marcie is retired from the State of Ohio and now enjoys reading, boating with her husband, gardening and all kinds of cooking, especially cake decorating. She attributes her love of nature to her nine years attending church camp and is still amazed at the gifts God has provided for us in the great outdoors.


 

Hand in Hand Camp

Sixteen junior/senior high youth join 16 developmentally disabled youth/young adults in living "hand in hand" as children of God.  Enjoy classic camp activities from hiking to campfire vespers.  Explore living together in faith with different abilities. An unforgettable week!

Randy Gehres is the senior pastor at Christ UCC, Orrville. Randy and Lisa have directed this camp for almost three decades.  It is their favorite week of the year.


 

Hook, Line & Spirit

Hook your faith on a line that only the spirit can catch. Enjoy a week of fishing, fun, swimming, canoeing, hiking, vespers and all the things you love about camp. We will fish in a pond, on a lake, in a river and at night! You'll learn new fishing techniques and search for answers to life's big questions.

Michael Brooks is an Ohio Certified Passport to Fishing Instructor.  He is also known as the “Camp Paparazzi” for taking the summer camp promotion pictures for Facebook and is currently the Camp Development Leader for Outdoor Ministries.  He loves the outdoors and spent most of his summers as a youth on his aunt’s farm fishing in the pond, on their stocked lake, in rivers, and walleye fishing on Lake Erie.


 

 

Junior High Outpost

Outpost—a home in the woods!  Come sleep in Conestoga wagons. Cook over an open fire.  Join in the adventure — take night hikes, make candles, explore nature through special walks, play games, worship, swim and make new friends.

Junior High Sports Camp

Our camp will challenge your best efforts on and off the athletic field! Team and individual sports will fill the week with competition and action. Not just for “jocks,” this camp is for all teens, guys and gals, who just enjoy sports. We’ll experience Christian attitudes about competition, make new friends, and learn a lot about ourselves. This camp is incredible— don’t miss it!

Music, Mime, Arts, Dance, Drama!  Experience a week full of singing, dancing, acting, laughing, playing instruments, and meeting new friends. Nick Garner (6 years as cabin leader and 4 years directing experience) and Jenny Garner (11 years as cabin leader and 1 year directing experience) have been involved with MMADD Camp at Templed Hills since they were in junior high. They've each seen camp from many different views as campers, cabin leaders and directors. They believe that camp has played integral roles in developing their spirituality and connections with God and look forward to living this week of Christian community every year! Camp can have a profound effect on your perspective on life, and they encourage everyone to come with an open mind and open heart ready to receive God's Spirit.

Just as the name implies, the week will be filled with lots of music, mime, arts, dance and drama as well as games, swimming, hiking and more. You are guaranteed to leave with new friends, a refreshed spirit and memories that will last a lifetime!


 

Mountain Biking   New this year!

Splash through puddles, slide across mud and generally tear it up!  We will head out on trails (on and off site), practice technique, encourage each other and mull over life's biggest questions.  Bring your mountain bike for a sweet week of riding, fellowship, swimming and worship.

Old MacDonald's Camp   New this year!

Howdy y'all!  Learn about the Lord and all of Creation — down on the farm!  We will take a trip to Malabar Farms and learn about the faith and perseverance used in our agricultural society.  We'll sleep under the stars like real ranch hands and learn to cook over an open fire out on the range!

Senior Choir Camp

"Make a joyful noise unto God." All those who share a love of singing and music will fit right in. Singing, playing instruments, liturgical dance, hand bells, art, photography and drama will fill our days. Night hikes, campfires, special vespers, and long talks with friends will fill our nights. If you play an instrument and want to bring it along, we would welcome that! The concert at week’s end celebrates a week of laughter and music.

Dennis Betz (8th yr. Dir.) is a composer, arranger, conductor, pianist and singer.  He is no stranger to Choir Camp, having attended first as a camper, then as accompanist and finally as the co-director.  Dennis has sung with or played piano for the Cincinnati Boy Choir, Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, and the Delta Kings Chorus and has music-directed numerous musicals in the Cincinnati area.  He is the founder of Betz Music in Cincinnati and for the past 27 years has served at several churches as the Minister of Music. Dennis also serves on the board of the Sayler Park Village Arts Council and Sunset Players.   

Brian Burke (6th yr. Dir.) is the pastor of First Congregational UCC in Wellington.  His undergraduate degree is in Music Education with a major in clarinet.  Prior to ordination, he spent five years as a high school band director, eight years directing church choirs, and twelve years directing church handbells from adult to junior high.  He has taught handbell classes and directed handbell festivals at regional and national events.


Senior High Sports Camp

Take your athletic ability a few notches higher through individual and team sports with other senior high school men and women! We’ll spend some time discussing ideas and growing in faith, as well as having free time in the outdoors. Help others grow as well by sharing your athletic experience and skills with the junior high campers. This week is demanding, fast paced, and amazingly good fun!
